The hunt

Here are a couple of shots from our hunt this year. We were unsuccessful in securing a coveted coues whitetail deer, "the grey ghost". We had some rough weather out in the desert of southern Arizona but it was a great time. This was not a photography trip by any means but I managed to get a couple of good shots.

Day 1: We had to tie the tent to the truck to keep it from blowing over. Needless to say the truck didn't help once the rain was pouring down.
The wind also required us to improvise in able to have a hot meal. Do not try this at home.

Self portrait from day 4, at this point we hadn't seen a buck for 3 days so I was getting bored.

Just before we left we took this shot, the terrain was full of cactus and rock, hardly any shade and even less deer.

A friend and I went to our hunt area for the upcoming season. We saw quite a few bucks and does. Here are a few landscape shots from the AZ Mexico border. Much greener than I anticipated.

This is one I got last night at the south end of Buckeye around 8 pm. The lightning storms are intense, most of the time lightning was striking in multiple locations at once making it difficult to photo.

This is a view of the White Tank mountains early on a Saturday Morning. A small sliver of sunlight hit the right side of the hills there giving the orange glow.

This is shot from the same location only looking toward the sun. I loved how the sun was breaking through the clouds.

Crappy job.
Bullfrog (Lithobates catesbeianus) These guys are a species introduced into AZ many years ago. They destroy many of the native species and can carry fungal diseases. As such, we rounded up a dozen and had frog legs.

Chiricahua Moutains

These pictures were taken about 7 years ago during a trip to the base of the chiricahua mountains.
This unhappy guy was found crossing the road after dark.

This Canyon treefrog (Hyla arenicolor) happened through the camp.

This little guy was found around 9:00am just hanging out on the road, trying to blend in.

Here are a few images I captured on Monday night. The cloud coverage really makes these shots worth taking. Both of these are taken straight out of the camera although the first is composed of two images.

This second shot was taken on a quiet road outside of Buckeye.

ISO-100, F-5.6, Time 2 min, you can see the plane that passed through the lower third.

ISO-200, F-6.7, Time 5min, re-focused and angled toward the darkest sky.

You can see the obstructive clouds and there is light coming in from all weird angles. Some from the sun (although it is below the horizon, 8:30pm) and some from the nearby forest service station, surprisingly bright. Anyway, not even close to what I was hoping for but a start.

There was a cruise just this last week in historic Pomona, CA. The fairgrounds and drag strip have always brought some great auto events to this area. My favorites are some of these old Fords.

Chiriaco Summit sunset. The sun was setting fast and I was able to snap a few photos. I hope to try turning some of these into HDR images. These haven't been processed yet. There weren't a lot of clouds in the sky but it was still quite nice.

I occasionally take pictures of flowers and other foliage although I am not too sure about proper composition. When I saw this little flower on our recent camping trip, front and center seemed appropriate.

I changed some of my lighting for this aquarium as well as some hardscaping and I am very happy with the way it looks. The glass is scratched, not much I can do about that. The Firemouth is coloring up nicely, he is a lone man in the tank, unless you count Mr. Crabby, the shrimp. I got more quality photos this session than previously, I'm stoked. All of these images are straight out of the camera, no editing.
Both of them like to hide out behind the wood under the heater.
I really liked the amount of detail in these two shots.

This is how I usually find him. Peeking out to see if anyone is coming to eat him. I also like this shot because the colors are very true to life.
His "firemouth" is really maturing now.
Full body shot. I'm not sure where the tear in his tail fin came from, probably in his lightning quick escape into his hole when someone came into the room.

I had the chance to go back to my hometown and do a little vet work this last weekend. It was a super fast trip but we got to see a few minutes of a bike race while there. As usual all of these images are straight out of the camera. Thats how I roll the fat ones.

Here are a few pictures of my little girl that I took this last weekend. My kids are getting too comfortable with me taking their picture, a little tired of it as well I think. Either way, I usually get a few gems each time. These are also the first few post processing edits I've done with CS4. Still getting used to it.

It's been a while since I posted anything. Life has been very busy. I graduated from Western University of Health Sciences with a degree in Veterinary Medicine. It was a great day. Four long years are finally finished. We moved from Arizona as I started a job in Salt Lake City, UT. Life has been so busy and between work and family responsibilities I just don't have the time to keep up with this blog. I'll continue taking pictures, and the fish, well they are on hold too. A few more classic pics to sign off with. Like usual, straight out of the camera. Thanks for reading. Rich

Here are a few pics, not my best work but I was trying a few different lighting options. They came out too yellow but this was the first time I got a few of the smaller fish in my tank.

Angelfish (Pterophyllum scalare), common guppy (Poecilia reticulata), Cerdinal tetras (Paracheirodon axelrodi), and an overexposed cory cat (Corydoras spp.).

This guy is pretty cool, an American flagfish (Jordanella floridae).

My fish tank has fallen by the wayside recently as everyday life has swallowed most of my time. The algae (not as unatractive as it could be) is overgrown and the ever present algae eating fish has been slacking on the job. Anyway, these are not my best photos of the fish but I wanted to chronicle the growth on the driftwood.

Hey there, I have been in another world for the last few weeks. I just finished taking the national veterinary licensing exam. What a relief it is finally over! I took the opportunity to go do some sunrise photography near Four Peaks, AZ. I also snuck in some target practice out in the desert with my brother Larry (http://www.larryreevesblog.com/). We had a great time, took some nice shots. Larry is nice enough to coach me along and offer suggestions about camera settings to try in different lighting situations. Thanks dude! Here are a couple of decent shots. And yes, my camera is definitely going in for a cleaning.

I remodeled my tank a little this last weekend. The fish in the tank are currently 1 angelfish, 4 giant danios, 10 cardinal tetras, 2 cherry barbs, 2 cory cats, and one clown loach. Photographing these guys always challenges me. I just can't get enough light...sounds like a good excuse for a new lens.

Many people probably don't know this but, this site is named after my grandfather. I chose this name as a reminder to myself of his influence on my life. Earlier today my grandfather, Raymond Heagle, peacefully passed away. Everyone who knows him has been blessed by his amazing spirit. We love you Grandpa, and we will miss you.
